Monthly Tips

TThis month we are focusing on color. We see in color but heaven forbid we put it on our walls. Color is not only the easiest way to re-theme a room, but it can also add the warmth, serenity, and vitality to a space.

How to Choose Paint Color

Room Color

The second most asked question (after what color to choose) is, “How do I deal with color from room to room?” Breaking color (as we pros call it) between two adjoining rooms can be tricky but here’s a simple solution.

  1. Pick three colors that you love. One for the ceiling, one for the walls and one for the trim. For our purposes, let’s say dusty sage green, cream and a medium robin’s egg blue.
  2. In one of the rooms, paint the ceiling blue and the walls green.
  3. In the second room reverse the colors by painting the walls blue and the ceiling green.
  4. Use the cream color for the trim in both rooms. This will visually link the spaces together.

This is called cross-pollinating color. You’ll find out that by only using two colors and reversing them for walls and ceiling, both rooms will completely coordinate. And by simply reversing the colors between both rooms, they will take on a completely different look and attitude. How simple is that?
